Why Gazebos Never Go Out of Style

Landscape design trends come and go. At one point, a white picket fence was seen as part of the package of an ideal home, but white picket fences now tend to look kitschy and outdated. Energy efficiency in outdoor spaces has become more important in the past twenty years, and water conservation in some parts of the world has put succulent gardens on the rise where once having a lush, green lawn was everything.

The entertainment value of the backyard in particular has overgone several transformations through the years. Once, it was enough to have a barbecue and a decent sized deck. Now, outdoor kitchens aren’t uncommon, decks are state-of-the-art, and there are plenty of elements in the backyard to keep guests engaged.

But some things never change, like gazebos. Although gazebos have been built in gardens since the middle ages, there’s just something timeless about them. There are a few reasons they’ve yet to be seen as outdated, and likely won’t become outdated any time soon.

Shelter in Any Season

Everyone loves to enjoy their time outside for as long as possible, but at some point, temperatures rise--or in this case, fall--to such an extent that we retreat indoors. Gazebos, however, can be enjoyed for longer periods of time than the rest of the outdoor space more often than not. In winter, the roof protects against the chilly winds or rain and snow. With the help of a space heater, a gazebo provides a perfect place to cozy up with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the fresh air without having to shiver. In summer, gazebos offer a shady spot to take a break from the sun.

Versatile Functionality

The covered outdoor space of a gazebo provides functionality for any number of projects. You can decorate your gazebo to host a special occasion, or just put up seasonal decorations to boost the festivity of your backyard. Many homeowners place gazebos in their garden and plant certain plants in the gazebo. A gazebo can be an art studio or simply a place to sit after a long workout. There’s no end to the possibilities for your gazebo. What fits your life best?

Gazebos are popular in any part of the country (and outside the country) and go with a number of various landscape styles. They’re stately, timeless, and add elegance to any backyard space. But while the traditional look of a gazebo never goes out of style, you’re not limited to just one design. Gazebos come in all shapes and sizes, depending on the personal tastes and styles of the homeowner who has them installed. Wood or asphalt shingles? Should your gazebo have a door or do you like the open feeling to it? It’s all up to your style.

At Paradise Decks & Spas, we’ve installed a variety of gazebos: some open, some closed, some elevated, some grounded. But each gazebo is stylish, multifunctional, and offers shelter to homeowners in any season.
