How to Keep Your Hot Tub From Freezing

Posted on February 21, 2020

San Antonio Hot Tub Maintenance

San Antonio is not known for its freezing temperatures, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take steps to protect your hot tub in the midst of winter. We do still have occasional evenings, especially in January or February, that dip below freezing. Keeping your hot tub heated for the entire winter can be costly in terms of energy usage, but you can use these tips in order to keep your hot tub from freezing so it's ready for you the next time you want to use it.

Keep It Full

The more water you have in the hot tub, the longer it will take to freeze. If your hot tub is full, it will stay warmer without needing to be turned on. That doesn't mean this is a one-and-done step, of course. It's a good idea to check the water level often to ensure that your hot tub is still full or close to full. But it is a potentially energy efficient step.

Regulate the Temperature

It can be expensive to keep the heat on all throughout the winter, but by keeping an eye on the temperature, you can help to keep your hot tub from freezing without your heating bills skyrocketing. Some thermostats, even hot tub thermostats, have programmed settings that turn the heat on only when the temperature reaches a certain low point. An automatic timer can also help you to regulate the temperature of your hot tub.

Use a Cover

One easy way to protect your hot tub during the winter is to invest in a hot tub cover. This is a great idea for several reasons. It keeps debris and other contaminants from getting into your hot tub when you're not using it. It also helps to trap heat inside the tub and keep your water warmer for longer. A strong vinyl cover is the best way to ensure your hot tub stays protected from the elements throughout the winter.

No one wants to come home after a long day of work with the need to relax only to find that their hot tub is frozen, but your comfort doesn't have to come at the expense of your heating bills. With these few tips you can keep your hot tub warm year round. Need more tips for maintaining your hot tub? Looking for a hot tub of your own?
